Day Light Savings… A Call for Abolishment!!
Most of us mamas had a crappy Sunday morning.
And now the fear of what is to become of our children and our mental sanity during the next few weeks has set in.
Unless you are one of the lucky ones… Arizonan and Hawaiian mamas… Day Light Saving (DLS) is a time… twice a year… that wreaks havoc on your innocent,
compliant,
content,
loving,
overall… perfect family.
And it should!!!
ME: “Oh… why hello body… hi brain… time is going to shift an hour… that won’t be a problem right? I mean, you two don’t like schedules do you?? Okay great!!”
So… if you’re an irritated,
overwhelmed,
tired mama….
here are a few reasons to justify your feelings.
YEAH… justification for feelings!!!
1. 6:00 am is too early for sunshine…
and children
and questions
and thinking
and everything!!
2. It’s not 1918… keep up with the times
Seriously… I’m going to have to do this in 5 years in order to have a single conversation with my future pre-teen daughter… I expect the same effort from my government!!!
3. Selfish acts should not punish the public for almost a century
Listen up President Wilson and all you other sports enthusiast…
“I don’t care if you enjoy playing your cute sports game in the sunlight.
We… I mean… our children…are more important than your entertainment!!!”
MEN!!!
4. Day Light Savings screws up our brains
I don’t know about you but my brain has had enough help in the “screwed up” department over the last 7 years…
thanks…
I’ll pass…
oh wait…
I have no choice…
awesome…
I love that!
5. 86.8714% of children do little to no work at home… let alone farm work (which means no need for early morning sun)
So… not only do we have lazier children but we have screwed up brains!!!!
I’m pretty sure I read one time that those two things work in blissful harmony together!
6. Children can ride a bus to school
We pay a lot of money in taxes so all the sweet… eager-to-learn children have a bus to ride to school.
I’d say we’re worthy of an extra hour of “no children” in the mornings!!
7. I have A LOT of clocks…
but little time!
And at least once, I end up being an hour early or an hour late due to a clock that I forgot to change!!
It’s a blast!!
8. Energy costs go down by less than 1%
NOT WORTH IT!!!
9. There are 3x more pedestrian fatalities during the weeks following DLS
We’re talking about death here people!!
To be exact… if you’re a walker or runner your risk of being killed by a car goes up 186% per mile during the weeks following DLS.
I don’t walk or run so I am safe… but you kick-a mamas…
watch out…
be safe…
live!!!
10. 6:00 pm is too early for darkness and despair
ABOLISHMENT NOW… ABOLISHMENT FOREVER…
WHO’S WITH ME??!!
It’s Been (a tiring) Pleasure (I’m going to bed),
Your Moderate Mama
Right and DUH!!! still the same amount of sunlight anyway…like, your not fooling anyone!!

I KNOW… the only people being fooled (and in trouble 😉 )are the little people who think 6am is the proper time to wake up… and all us big people are getting punished!!
I think this should be an election issue!! 😉

I’m totally ready for it to end! I think all the farmers have lights in their field by now, right? right? All I know is I’m the same at 6 pm – it’s dark so my body says it’s bed time!
Of course, this morning when I went out for my run, it was weird seeing all the kids in the daylight that I’ve seen in the dark for weeks! LOL

I second everything you just said. Daylight savings is the worst invention in the history of civilisation!

I’m always the one who forgets to set back the clocks. I’m a really organized person but changing the time on the clocks never makes sense to me.
I wasn’t on the schedule to work Sunday, but I was asked to come in because they needed extra help. And what happens? I showed up an hour EARLY. I could have stayed at home for another freaking hour on what should have been a day off. Instead I just worked the extra hour, too. Jeez.

Well… you win for crappiest Sunday!!!
Did you at least get paid for your extra hour?

Oh yes, you bet! And I got in good with one of my managers, so that will be helpful going forward. 🙂

Yesterday was rough. I ended up falling asleep on the couch at 7pm, then awakening at 10pm and staying up until 1:30am. Ugh!
My kids went to sleep at their usual times on the clock, but awakened one hour early. So, yeah, I’m feeling super well rested and awesome today.

I wished you lived near me… we’d ditch the fam and go get a drink… or a bench in the park and take a nap!!!

I’m with you, I hate it!! My dog does to he wines relentlessly because he has to wait an extra hour for his food. It takes me about a week to adjust to it. I ask Hubby all the time, what’s the point of this stupid time change. lol

Agreed! It’s dark at 5.30pm and that’s in sunny California. I went to bed at 9pm and woke up at 5am…DLS is messing with my brain.

So glad to know that I’m not alone in the darkness. I’ve been a little funky all week and you know how that goes…if mama is funky, the whole house is funky!
I’m also so sorry that I’ve missed these!! I’m gonna fix that right now and sign up for e-mail instead of relying on my reader.
I hope you are doing well! xo
